This code of practice explains the concept of risk assessment, which forms an integral part of OHS legislation in NSW. The code gives a definition of risk management, then goes on to explain the steps in the process of risk assessment.
The code sets out when an employer must assess a risk. It identifies other factors that may contribute to the level of risk of an identified hazard, such as work premises or the systems of work being used.
Whilst the code is primarily aimed at employers, it is essential that workers read and understand this process. Risk assessment is the key mechanism through which the safety at a workplace is addressed. Without an informed and knowledgable workforce this process is compromised, and that means safety on site is also compromised.
The more workers who understand this process the safer workplaces will be in NSW.
