This code details measures that should be taken to control electrical risks. It applies to workers who perform electrical work on or near low voltage installations or systems.
The code details how electricity at low voltage can affect health and safety. The code sets out the obligaitons of all parties. It specifies the steps that must be taken to identify, assess, control, monitor and review a workplace. It goes on to specify a number of essential controls that must be used in different stages of work, such as
- When fault finding
- Before working live in electrical supply emergencies
- When working live
- When leaving unfinished work
- When electrical testing
- When cutting cables
- When working on de energised equipment and
- when removing out of service electrical equipment.
The code also specifies the legal obligations of all parties and is supported by a number of practical tools for use in the workplace.
