Hazardous Substances are defined and regulated by Chapter 6 of the OHS Regulation 2001. This code of practice expands on those obligations imposed by the Regulation.
The code sets out how to identify hazardous substances, the role of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)and labelling requirements.
Prohibited uses for certain substances are also listed. These include asbestos, benzene and tetrachloroethane. The code sets out the training and induction obligations upon an employer for employees who work with hazardous substances.
