AWU Opposes Australian Unilateral Action Against Iraq

15 February 2003

The Greater NSW Branch of the AWU will be joining hundreds of thousands of working Australians in anti-war actions this weekend.

State Secretary Russ Collison will join with AWU Officials and Members in the "Walk Against the War" in Sydney on Sunday 16 February 2003.

The AWU is concerned about the long term implications for working people if Australia is to commit to action against Iraq without sanction from the United Nations.

The AWU believes in the same way that Australian unions call on nations to implement the conventions of the International Labour Organisation, nations must also respect the decisions of the United Nations, the global umpire.

The AWU will be supporting further peace actions through the Labor Council of NSW and calls on all members and concerned members of the community to do the same.

For more information on peace activities in your area click here to check out the LaborNET No War Site.
